JESSE FREIDIN is a native of Massachusetts who works (almost) exclusively with integral and non-integral instant film. A near-obsessive collection of Polaroid cameras and accessories, along with numerous briefcases full of portraits, have been spilling out of his closets for over six years. At this point in his life he is trying to bridge his interest in documentary portraiture with a strong investment in creating powerful and original images. The tactile, delicate nature of the Polaroid medium makes this goal immediate and seems to speak to the anxiety and unexpectedness of border-crossing communities, as well as the ever-elusive search for self.
I use current pack films (such as Polaroid and Fuji) with older Polaroid Land cameras to create my images. I rely mostly on these trustworthy models:
